Reimagining the Edmonton Coliseum

From sports arena to renewable power generation station: A sustainable vision for Edmonton's future

About the Project

The City of Edmonton is considering demolition of the historic Northlands Coliseum. Instead of tearing it down, we propose retrofitting this solid structure into a renewable power generation station.

This innovative project combines solar, wind, and geothermal energy production in a single facility, while incorporating educational and tourism components to benefit the community.

Innovative Technology

Our design integrates multiple renewable energy technologies to maximize efficiency and output

Wind Turbine Retrofit

The circular roof of the Coliseum provides an ideal structure for wind turbine installation. Our design includes:

  • Motorized landing gear to support wing tips due to weight
  • Air foil systems that can be pneumatically, hydraulically, or servo expanded/contracted
  • Generator/motor for electrical generation or rotation
  • Observation access through the leading edge for servicing, education, and tourism
